60,000,000

Day 5.

I heard the phrase “bored of peace” today on the radio as an explanation for why Tr*mp happened. How can anyone feel bored of peace?  Really??!

Sure, we take peace and security for granted because that’s what we do. In our defense, most of the people alive today have not experienced anything but peace and prosperity. Most Americans do not fear bombs being dropped on their homes on a daily basis. Nothing like the Blitz in London during WWII. That was more than 70 years ago. Our memories aren’t that great and so we forget what it’s like when ~3% of the world population dies suddenly.

60 million ! people are ESTIMATED to have died during WWII. So many people were killed that we don’t even know how many exactly it was. It’s hard to fathom. But that’s the kind of worldwide change that we seem to be in the midst of or maybe even headed towards.

(We don’t really do War like we used to. Congress doesn’t have to declare it. There’s no rationing. There are no war bonds being sold to fund the military. There’s no sacrifice involved for 95% of Americans.)

Imagine what it was like after WWII finally ended. We dropped NUKES on two cities. We were all scared of the Soviets too. Lots of us died. Europe was destroyed. We scraped our human selves together and created stuff like the United Nations, NATO…the things Tr*mp wants to ditch. The things we thought would prevent crazy shit from happening again.

We are in a scary time. There is much uncertainty. Especially for a society that finds itself feeling perhaps a bit bored of so much peace and prosperity that…

WE DECIDE TO HAVE A WAR!?

Our new leader seems to want to start shit with Mexico. China. Russia. Anywhere in the Middle East/Arab States.

Let’s bring back Romanesque Gladiator shit too while we’re at it. Have you seen the movie Idiocracy? We’re in it.

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

“Never, never, never give up.”

~Winston Churchill
